Install Caddie

It isn't in the Chrome Web Store yet, so this is the manual route. Five minutes, and you'll need a GHIN number.

Download the extension
version 0.1.0 · 29 KB · .zip
Download .zip
  1. Unzip it somewhere permanent

Your Downloads folder works, but Chrome loads the extension from wherever you put this folder and reads it from there every time it starts. If you delete or move it later, Caddie disappears. Somewhere like ~/Documents/caddie is a safer bet.

  2. Open the extensions page

Paste chrome://extensions into your address bar. Links to it don't work — Chrome blocks them — so it has to be pasted or typed.

  3. Turn on Developer mode

Toggle at the top right of that page. This is what allows an extension that isn't from the store.

  4. Load unpacked

Button appears at the top left once Developer mode is on. Select the unzipped folder — the one containing manifest.json, not the .zip.

  5. Sign in with GHIN

Click the Caddie icon in your toolbar (you may need the puzzle-piece menu to pin it) and enter the email or GHIN number you use for the GHIN app. It's encrypted and stays on your machine.

  6. Start on your own profile

Open your own LinkedIn profile and press Verify me. That links your GHIN so other people see you as verified — and it's the one thing that makes Caddie work for someone who hasn't signed in yet.

Chrome will nag you. Every few restarts it asks whether to disable developer-mode extensions. Click Keep. It stops once the store listing is live.

No auto-updates on this route. The popup tells you when a newer version is out; you re-download and press the reload arrow on chrome://extensions. Store installs will update themselves.
